suggests it is becoming increasingly warm and uncomfortable; we are told to take care and not underestimate forecast heat of around 30; what about thoroughbreds?
They suffer and so don’t be in a hurry to get seriously involved with short-priced, day-time bets; evening racing is ideal when soaring/high temperatures prevail.
Just a word of warning…!
Exgray is an obvious form choice in the opening Maiden Stakes over five furlongs at Hamilton today, hopefully newcomer Waveband isn’t tuned up!
Brian Smart has achieved plenty with juveniles and once-raced Exgray shaped well when runner-up at Musselburgh last month to Capercaillie, a stable-companion of Waveband!
On the time-handicap Exgray has the beating of five others with form but I’m just wary of two un-raced ‘mysteries’, especially superbly-bred Waveband.
Watch the market but don’t be totally influenced; Exgray looks a decent punt at 2/1 or better, there again if that price prevails it will probably suggest confidence in Waveband.
Most intriguing.
Brian will also be fancying twice-raced Jeunopse in the concluding Maiden Stakes over a mile but considerable improvement will be needed if Mark Tompkins-trained Drum Dragon reproduces her latest time-handicap mark.
That was in a handicap on Wolverhampton polytrack where Drum Dragon failed by only a neck to beat Cool Hand Jake over a similar distance. It represented at least 10lbs improvment and when fillies suddenly hit form at this time of year… follow ‘em!
Drum Dragon is napped because, price-wise, she will be better value than Rocky’s Pride, one of six ‘decs’ for the Maiden Stakes over a mile and a quarter of Brighton.
Ryan Moore is ploughing on relentlessly to another jockeys’ championship; most impressed with his dedication, consistency and professionalism and for those who reckon he doesn’t smile enough this (like tennis!) is a serious business. Anyway I’m suspicious of ’smilers!’
Selections, Hamilton 2.15 Exgray; 5.45 Drum Dragon (nap); Brighton, 3.00 Rocky’s Pride; Thirsk, 7.00 Balodair.
not surprisingly is RACING HERO, 8.10 WINDSOR, odds-on in a handicap and ‘no chance’ on my time-handicap.
Given Racing Hero is 1.84 BETDAQ/BETFAIR you will already know someone who has played already!
