Lay Of Today…

Friday, July 31st, 2009

ZAFAR, 3.40 BANGOR is definitely the ‘wrong’ price at 1.96 BETDAQ/BETFAIR with at least two ’serious’ rivals, Duty Free/Word Of Warning, not to mention other fancied runners from ‘alf-decent’ yards.

Last day of this successful month, nice to go out on a ‘loser!’

Watch out for ‘Dick!’

Friday, July 31st, 2009

Dick Turpin to plunder the £80000, group two Richmond Stakes over six furlongs at Goodwood this afternoon.
Unbeaten and wide margin winner of both races Dick Turpin is at least the equal of any rival and is trained by Richard ‘winning machine’ Hannon!
Marlborough maestro Hannon has the definitive line to all juvenile form, Dick Turpin might be the equal of Canford Cliffs for all we know, Richard will!
Pointless opposing Dick Turpin, after all Hannon did mention that Monsieur Chevalier “might run in the Richmond…!” after scorching home on Tuesday.
Obviously that was said ‘tongue in cheek’ knowing full well Dick Turpin would represent his yard.
What a trainer, reminds me of the man who, reputedly, had the biggest and best wine cellar in Newmarket; whatever anyone else produced he’d have something better. Is that true? does it matter?
Regardless of any fancy today nothing compares to mine in the Maiden Auction Stakes over six furlongs at Haydock tonight!
Local trainer, Geraldine Rees, intends winning with top-rated Regardless; blinkers are fitted for the first time and useful 7lbs apprentice, Billy Cray, has been booked.
There’s no such thing as a certainty in racing but Regardless of what you may think this should be nigh on!
Hopefully Geraldine graces the winners’ enclosure, she remains one of the loveliest women I’ve ever seen, a natural, sophisticated beauty and sincere.

Truly Asia is strongly-fancied for the seventeen-runner Maiden Stakes over a mile at Thirsk, trained by Roger Charlton?
Yes that’s right; can’t remember Roger sending one to this popular North Yorkshire course before and so attach significance, especially with former champ, Seb Sanders, booked.
Although locally-based Dandy Nicholls sends out, Royal Defence, a similar proposition on official ratings, my time-handicap illustrates an obvious chance for Truly Asia, second to runaway winner, Penitent, at Newmarket thirteen days ago. That would be good enough and this thrice-raced Acclamaton colt can be relied upon because he’s improved each time and must not be missed.

Selection, Goodwood, Goodwood, 4.00 Dick Turpin; 4.35 Gunner Lindley (e.w); Thirsk, 3.15 Truly Asia; Haydock, 6.45 Regardless (nap-e.w).

Lay Of Today…

continues to search for ‘value’ as they say, if it’s possible to lay TRIBIANI, 3.00 STRATFORD at 2.0 with either BETDAQ/BETFAIR it will be done; I’ve ‘booked’ or ‘botted’ this Alzao filly at those odds and you should do the same.

On my time-handicap Tribiani has no chance, judged on last two runs, and not much at her best; makes no apppeal whatsoever.

Perhaps ‘they’ know something we don’t…!

Water Biscuit tasty!

Thursday, July 30th, 2009

Water Biscuit looks a tasty proposition in the sixteen-runner Maiden Fillies’ Stakes over seven furlongs at Goodwood today, I love ‘em!
With cheese or pate there is nothing better than Water Biscuit and such will be on picnicker’s menu’s in car parks sprawled against the magnificent back-drop of Sussex Downs; I digress but oh to turn the clock back…!
That’s not possible but victory for Brian Meehan’s charge certainly is, judged on two efforts, runner-up both times on the Newmarket July course over six furlongs.
Water Biscuit improved considerably on debut, extra distance shouldn’t be a problem because it often pays to equate a stiff six to this track which places great emphasis on speed and athleticism.
Frankie Dettori is booked for Water Biscuit and that makes this nap a delicious prospect.
Dower Glen stands out for the Maiden Stakes over five furlongs at Musselburgh, what beats Ian Semple’s runner will win.
Adopting the ‘Semple method’ was one of most consistent methods a few years back but this excellent trainer sufffered as a result of a freak Wolverhampton incident; I’d love to see him break back into the big-time where Ian belongs.

Hay Fever could be a problem for forecast-favourite, Expressive, in the Maiden Stakes over a mile of left-handed Nottingham.
Although Hay Fever hasn’t been out for 370 days we’re assured fitness isn’t at issue; in a weak race only Sir Michael Stoute-trained Expressive, and possibly Chateauneuf, can be mentioned as serious rivals.
Once-raced Expressive has also been absent for ten weeks, since finishing four lengths second to Sunshine Always on Wolverhampton polytrack.
So important this well-bred Falbrav filly gains ‘winning brackets’ for the Cheveley Park Stud but at odds-on punters will be risking ‘ard earned’ for too little reward given what she has achieved.
Therefore, with three places on offer and best-in on the TH, Hay Fever just has to be an each-way ’special!’

Selections, Goodwood, 5.10 Water Biscuit (nap); Nottingham, 4.25, Hay Fever (e.w); Musselburgh, 6.45 Dower Glen (e.w); Epsom, 7.00 Universal Circus (e.w).
