Today is ’special’ and in the twelve-runner Maiden Stakes over a mile of picturesque Salisbury it will be ’time’ to bet like men; Spoken like a real trooper!
Roger Charlton and Steve Drowne are the Autumn ‘A-team’ in my book and once-raced Spoken is reckoned way above average; it will be extremely disappointmenting if he doesn’t ‘do the biz’ on the back of a creditable fourth at Sandown nineteen days ago when running on really well.
His cause was hopeless soon after fly-jumping at the start but juveniles learn plenty from a ‘first day at school!’
Spoken could well prove listed/group class, his time-handicap mark suggests a bright future; it was once the case for Buckie Boy!
Trained by Henry Cecil and raced umpteen times Buckie Boy is still ‘qualified’ to run in the Maiden Stakes over twelve furlongs at Kempton tonight; I’ll bet he isn’t tomorrow!
As previously mentioned Cecil has his yard in tremendous form and Buckie Boy wins this moderate race off his worst mark, there simply isn’t a serious rival.
Hopefully Tom Queally will ‘put it to bed’ with a positive front-running effort, Cecil always encouraged such tactics during the halcyon days of Cauthen, Piggott, Mercer, Fallon and didn’t we back some winners?
It would be difficult for readers to understand how simplistic form, and life in general, was when ‘King Henry’ ruled, and dominated and championed the cause of punters.
Selections, Salisbury, 1.25 Spoken;Kempton, 6.50 One Good Emperor (e.w); 8.20 Buckie Boy; Nottingham, 2.20 Sir Frank Woppat.
