‘Daring’ nap?

Sunday, November 29th, 2009

Daring Origyn is one of ten ‘decs’ for the Novices’ Hurdle over two and a half miles at Leicester today, napped!

After Daring Origyn had given my nap, Cool Friend, a real scare at Exeter a month ago my comment was, ‘nap next time!’

It’s pleasing to see Daring Origyn has been given plenty of time for recovery and with capable amateur Oliver Greenall again claiming 3lbs allowance Richard Lee’s charge is the one to beat; no easy task however.

Both Pugilist and The Falkander come out similarly and so I’m banking on Daring Origyn to improve enough and go one better.

Sendall is worth each-way support in the Handicap Hurdle over two miles; ‘best-in’ on the time-handicap and ridden by N Moscrop, a capable amateur who claims the full 7lbs!

Catch Bob is an obvious danger but others will be hard-pressed to cope if both run to their marks. Might just have a speculative forecast, and retire!

Kempton stages an eight-race programme which affords a couple of betting opportunities, Caramelita and Kazbow, in the maiden races.

Selections, Leicester, 12.45 Daring Origyn (nap-e.w); 2.55 Sendali (e.w); Kempton, 2.10 Caramelita (e.w); 4.45 Kazbow.

Ruby Walsh is reportedly “looking forward!” to riding race-favourite, Denman, in the £200000 Hennnessy Gold Cup over three and a quarter miles at Newbury today, I’m not!
This time last year Denman was sidelined, due to much-chronicled heart problems; he raced twice but last time on a racecourse we all feared the worst when screens were erected after the eight-year-old crashed out at the second last in the Aintree Chase.
Mercifully Denman was spared, never thought for one moment we would ever see the sensational 2008 Cheltenham Gold Cup winner in action again, but here we are, and he’s a hot-favourite!
What’s motivating owners, Harry Findlay and Paul Barber, not to mention trainer, Paul Nicholls, to try and resurrect one of the most fabulous ‘Hennessy’ moments?
As an owner of several useful thoroughbreds, that contributed to fifty-nine winners over a period of about twenty years, I’m aware of ‘the buzz’ that accompanies ownership (and winning!) but Denman would/should have been retired (to a glorious abode!) the moment he clambered to his feet at Liverpool
Denman was sensational when making all in this great race two years ago, and at Cheltenham in the aforementioned ‘classsic’ but, significantly, hasn’t won since!
As a veteran ‘racing man’, who must put my money where my mouth is, I’ve laid Denman to four figures and at 6/1 for the 2010 Gold Cup next March.
so what will win?
Now that’s the ‘64000′ question but Victor Chandler is betting five places and a quarter of the odds in an attempt to outdue rivals; difficult to imagine Irish-trained State Of Playout of those placings.
Evan Williams has targetted this great race for State Of Play, a sporting each-way bet is advised.
Newcastle stages the £100000 grade one Fighting Fifth Hurdle over two miles for which Binocular is evens favourite; odds are ‘wrong!’
Although runner-up in the Champion Hurdle last March this is about as competitive as it could possibly get for a first-up run and that’s why Solwhit, recent conqueror of Hurricane Run in Ireland, is preferred.
It’s a long time since solwhit was beaten and on soft ground fitness will doubtless be a serious issue on the unforgiving climb of a wonderful track.
This is one of THE days of any NH season, enjoy it and for updates go to www.1degreeonline.co.uk and a LOT more.
selections, Newbury, 2.40 State Of Play (e.w); Newcastle, 1.50 Solwhit; Lingfield, 32.0 Mustakmil; Wolverhampton, 7.20 Stefanki (e.w).
