Honest Joe…

Thursday, December 31st, 2009

Cuthbert really should make experience count in division one of the Maiden Stakes over seven furlongs at Lingfield’s polytrack today; William Jarvis’ charge will provide a first leg of my each-way double, one of the very best bets available.
There was a time when it wasn’t possible to ‘get on’ with this-type bet but competiton is fierce in the bookmaking world nowadays; any number of major firms offer incentives to get your money and so, within reason, it’s unlikely you’ll be ‘knocked back’ with an EWD, sticking with double-digit stakes.
Whenever a clear-cut opportunity arises, for the EWD, my stake is about £50 and if the first leg is successful it’s possible to ‘trade out’ with the exchanges, and do!
Consistent, hitherto luckless Cuthbert has been running well in handicaps, this represents a drop in grade and, significantly, William has booked Joe Fanning, just about the ’straightest’ and most genuine jockey in the world.
Not for Joe any messing about, he’s become a wealthy, respected jockey by virtue of an honest approach to his profession; no one ever speaks a wrong word about this definitive ‘punter’s pal!’
Doubtless Cuthbert will be ridden positively, over to you Joe!
Then, hopefully, Fazza will make the frame, at worst, in division two; David Arbuthnot’s charge has a similar profile to Cuthbert, having raced five times.
Eleven days ago Fazza was beaten only a neck in a Kempton handicap, his first vattempt at the this distance; all signals are in place and jockey, David Probert, is a real plus.
An horrendous weather forecast precludes ‘penning’ copy about the jumpers at Uttoxeter/Warwick but if they are on and we spot a likely candidate www.1degreeonline.co.uk* should be worth a visit.
So that’s another year, all the very best for 2010 when, as ever, I’ll strive to make betting profitable and enjoyable.

Selection, Lingfield, 12.30 Cuthbert (nap-e.w); 1.00 Fazza (e.w); 3.30 Desert Dreamer (e.w).

* be ready for New Years Day announcement…!

TENACESTREAM, 12.50 LINGFIELD is currently 1.94 BETDAQ/BETFAIR but needs to improve on his winning debut run last month; perhaps, would you like to bet he will, at the aforementioned ‘wrong’ odds?

Three tasty rivals in opposition…!

TITO BUSTILLO, 1.10 TAUNTON makes no appeal whatsoever at 1.9 B/B and it wouldn’t be a surprise if this penalised four-year-old doesn’t make the frame.

I’ll chance both at ‘wrong’ odds!

Word is that…

JOSIAH BARTLETT, 12.20 LINGFIELD is a buzzer, ridden by ‘Daily Earner!’

Not my kind of bet but it’s littered with moderates and trained by shrewd Ian Williams who hasn’t booked Hayley without good reason.

For what it’s worth I’ve ‘played the place’ and hope this info leads you to reward!

Information comes from all unlikely sources but tune in for the 3.25 (bumper!) at Taunton just before the start…!

Focus on ‘Daily Earner!’

Wednesday, December 30th, 2009

Did you know eleven plus two is an anagram of twelve plus one and that Hayley Turner was booked last week for Totally Focussed in the nine-runner all-aged mile handicap at Lingfield tomorrow?
It’s also common knowledge that ‘Daily Earner’ is now consistently riding strongly-fancied runners for Epsom trainer, Simon Dow, who obviously recognises the class of Hayley, due to become twenty-seven next Saturday; the perfect age!
Hayley partnered Totally Focussed for the first time over seven furlongs of this polytrack course last month; he ran well, considering the Trans Island gelding hadn’t been out for nine months; losing second place in the closing stages was probably due to lack of fitness because pre-race market moves suggested there would be another day, and this could be it!
No ‘cert’ by any means but with three places on offer and plenty of confidence behind Totally Focussed, ‘get on’ each-way.

‘Daily Earner’ then journeys to Kempton where Capone (sixth Wolverhampton, Monday!) carries top-weight in the all-aged six furlongs handicap; no chance whatsoever with bottom-weight and course/distance winner, Dvinsky, mount of Shane Kelly.
This Irishman is also a ‘gifted’ horseman and I’d like to see him put aside all distractions and get his head down because a tremendous career could be in prospect.
In our game we’re judged by the company we keep, it happened to me!
As previously mentioned it’s all about knowing something that no one else knows, but I’ll continue to tell it from the hip with you in mind!

Selection, Lingfield, 12.50 Edgewater; 3.05 Shakalaka; 3.35 Totally Focussed (e.w); Kempton, 8.20 Kirsty’s Boy.
