Lotteries, eh?

Saturday, July 31st, 2010

Two lotteries today; BBC stages the national version this evening but, beforehand, twenty-eight runners go to post for the Goodwood Stewards’ Handicap over six furlongs, by far the ‘most difficult’ horserace imaginable and yet, drawn on the far side, Genki, has to be worth a ticket!
It’s certain two groups will race either side, I’m from the ‘old school’ that reckons a high draw best on this picturesque course, especially when ground is firm, and it is!
Genki is a ‘right job’ and with the ‘A-team’ of Roger Charlton and Steve Drowne involved I’ll actually ‘play’ this cavalry charge.
No one ‘plots’ better than Charlton and certainly there isn’t a more proficient jockey, pound for pound, than Drowne, when the money is down!
Just one interesting thought, why is Roger running Run For The Hills, mount on Hayley Turner?
Think a saver is justified and, hopefully, with considerable winnings Captain Bertie will carry the ‘JR cash against eight rivals in the Maiden Stakes over seven furlongs.
Captain Bertie impressed on debut fifteen days ago, storming home in a similar race at Newbury; with more urgency he could have won but that, obviously, wasn’t the main consideration for veteran trainer, Barry Hills.
This is potentially a ‘first division’ prospect, back Captain Bertie, accordingly and stable-companion, Face The Problem, to complete a quick-fire hat-trick in the nursery at Thirsk!
No ‘Problem’ at York last Saturday and Hills has booked apprentice, Ashley Young, to offset 5lbs.

Selections, Goodwood, 3.40 Genki; 4.15 Captain Bertie; Thirsk, 2.20 Face The Problem; 2.50 Sennockian.

LOT…

OUR GUARDIAN ANGEL, 4.55 GOODWOOD is 2.0 BETDAQ/BETFAIR but there are plenty of ‘live’ rivals to this moderate mare.

LAY!

‘Ransom’ to deliver!

Friday, July 30th, 2010

Ransom Note would be an appropriately-named, poignant winner of the £150000 Tote International Handicap over a mile at Goodwood today, massively-fancied by veteran trainer, Barry Hills.
Earlier this month owner Raymond Mould posted a reward notice of £10000 for the return of his 1988 Cheltenham Gold Cup, won by Charter Party, in the colours of his late, much-lamented wife, Jenny; it was stolen several weeks ago from his home!
The Moulds, predominantly jumping biased, landed Grand Nationals with Bindaree and, of course, Ransom Note enabled Raymond to enjoy more wonderful moments when successful in the ‘Britannia’ at Royal Ascot.
Although drawn five of twenty Ransom Note is the one to beat; ‘we’ reckon he’ll be good enough to progress and win the Cambridgeshire over nine furlongs at Newmarket.
In the meantime Michael Hills needs to get him out, and in rhythm, to effect a sustained finishing burst for a ‘Glorious’ success. Don’t be surprised if he’s in front a long way out!
Also fancied is stable-companion Diamond Geezah, one of twelve in the RSA Nursery over seven furlongs, a target since winning over a similar distance at Ayr earlier this month.
Diamond Geezah finished strongly to win decisively; this will be tougher and top-weight, Memen, has an obvious chance but none of the others make appeal on the TH.
Libranno is just about the best in Richard Hannon’s yard!
Winner of both races to date Libranno should have a simple task in the £80000, group 2, Richmond Stakes over six furlongs and a real ’special!’
Get (your ‘betting boots!) on…!

Selection, Goodwood, 3.25 Ransom Note (e.w); 4.00 Libranno; 4.35 Diamond Geezah (e.w); Bath, 7.40 Park View.

Another difficult day but…

the last two days look much better and so, click on and don’t forget!

don’t loook for bets, especially at difficult venues like goodwood.
